Alfred A. Hayes, age 75 of Greenville passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the Dayton VA Hospice. Al dearly loved life and his family and gave his all to everything he did, including his battle with cancer. His wife, Marjorie, was the love of his life. He was as tough as nails, the hardest worker, loyal and devoted husband/father/grandfather/great grandfather, nature and animal lover, avid fisherman, mushroom hunter, outdoorsman and hunter, handy-man, bowler, and cook. He coached for his kids and loved to support his kids and grandkids in all their sports. He loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Reds, old westerns, old movies, and Yellowstone. He could fix anything and was always the one the family went to for advice and help. He didn’t know a stranger and would help anyone. He taught all of us never to give up or quit. Some of his favorite lines, “Can’t, never did anything,” If you aren’t going to do it right, don’t do it at all,” “You can do anything in life you put your mind to.”
Al was preceded in death by his father, Arthur E. Hayes, Sr., mother, Nadine V. (Wood) Clemens and stepfather, Wayne Clemens; two sisters, Artha Deena Crawley and Alberta Plessinger; two brothers, Frederick D. Hayes and Arthur “Ed” Hayes, Jr.; beloved aunt and uncle, Mildred “Wanetta” and Vance Wissinger; grandchild, Hunter Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marjorie “Margie”; beloved cat, Boots “Booty”; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chris (Margaret) Hayes, Paul Hayes; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy (Keith) Burk, Heather (Mark) Westbrock; a sister, Melva “Kay” Lacey; grandchildren, Emily (Tyler) Trick, Ally (Carson) Bruner, Annie Hayes, Lilly Hayes, Adam Hayes, Bryan Hayes, Abby (Trevor Hawkey) Hayes, Dakota (Stevee) Curtis, Darien (Brianna) Burk, Keith (Shelbey) Burk, Dustin Burk, Katie (Preston Runyon) Burk, Isabella Burk, Anna Burk, Christian Burk, Maria Westbrock; great grandchildren, Ethan and Evan Hawkey, Stella Burk, Kayson Burk, Dean Burk.
