Ann Sobota Coens, 87, passed away on August 6, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. She died in Dayton, Ohio, but was a long-time resident of Schaumburg, Illinois.
Ann was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and a positive thinker. She was a true businesswoman who loved all the many jobs she had throughout her life that provided her the opportunity to travel all over the United States. She was a woman who loved adventure that included golfing, fishing, bowling, trips to the beach, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Chiefs.
Ann was devoted to her family and faith community. She loved volunteering at her parish as a greeter and minister of care, bringing Holy Communion to the sick and disabled. She volunteered in local elections by calling to get conservative voters to the polls. She was blessed in her marriage and motherhood raising 5 children who were close in age, all born in just six years, referring to them as her Five Busy B’s.
Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph F. Coens, parents, Alphons and Alyce Sobota, stepson, Thomas A. Coens, and nephew, Michael Moris. She was born in Whitehall, Wisconsin. Ann graduated from St. Felix Catholic School in Wabasha, MN.
Ann is survived by her children Robert (Dwaina) Coens of Schaumburg, IL, Elizabeth (Paul) Brough of Dayton, OH, Brian (Stacey) Coens of Lenexa, KS, William (Lori) Coens of Overland Park, KS, Bradley (Barb Brown) Coens of Cleveland, OH, & Step-son Joseph (Lorrie) Coens of Toronto, CA. Treasured grandmother of Jeff, Matt, Robbie, Jennifer (Benjamin), Daniel (Madeline), Julie (Jeffrey), Katie, Allison, Hayden, Dylan, Austin, Gannon, Quintin, Raegan and step grandchildren Joey, David (Tammy), Jenny (Gord), Laura (Ben), Tom (Laura), Allison (Bill), Katie (Alex), and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Judy (Larry) Moris, Patrick Sobota, Sharon (Gordon) Miller, Jerome (Sue) Sobota and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held September 10th, 2022, at St. Matthews Parish in Schaumburg, IL. The visitation will be from 9-10 AM followed by Mass at 10 AM. There will be a luncheon immediately following Mass, location to be determined.
