Beverly Ann Abell (nee Mosier), died Sunday, 26 Jan 2014 at Kettering Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born1 Nov 1943 to Alfred and Hallie Mosier (nee Lock) in Lakeland Florida and moved to St Bernard OH at a young age where she grew up and met her husband of 49 years, Eric E (Rick) Abell who survives her along with her sisters, Janice Blackwell of Columbus OH and Teri Tenkman of Sarasota Fl and her daughters, Brenna Henkels and Erica Freshwater of Centerville OH and four grandchildren, Emma, Karl, Cole and Sophie. She was preceded in death by her parents and Betty Schumann, her long time and much beloved mother in fact who raised her from the first grade after her Mother Hallie died and Father Alfred was incapacitated, until she and Rick were married.
Bev and Rick first met when they were High School Students in St Bernard OH and married after Rick graduated from the University of Cincinnati. After marriage, they moved to Kettering OH where Rick worked as an engineer at WPAFB. Between assignments in Cincinnati, Hartford CN and Palo Alto CA, they resided in Kettering and remained there after Rick’s retirement in 1997. Bev was a solid supporter and friend to many of Rick’s USAF Colleagues and to her co workers at Winters/Bank One.
Bev worked at Rikes and later at Winters/Bank One for many years during which she attended and graduated with Honors from Sinclair Community College in Finance and was named an Ohio Fellow, the all-college Honorary Society. She subsequently retired from Bank One and continued with her pastimes of reading, travel, theater and most of all, spoiling of her grandchildren. Bev and Rick traveled extensively in the US and Europe enjoying seeing many sights and meeting people from different cultures. Bev especially enjoyed visiting their condo on Seabrook Island SC and enjoying the many pleasures of the Carolina Low Country.
She was always willing to help in any manner for almost any cause and was a long time volunteer for the March of Dimes.
The next time there is a Category on Jeopardy, one of her favorite TV programs, named Best People in the World, at least one of the answers will be Bev Abell. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends and the world is poorer for her passing,
A visitation will be held at Westbrock Funeral Home in Bigger Road in Kettering Thursday 30 Jan 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and a Memorial Service at the same location on 31 Jan 2014 at 1030 AM.
Donations to The Rick and Bev Abell Scholarship Fund at the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science or the American Cancer Society are requested in lieu of flowers.
