SHEARER, Carol Aug. 16, 1928 - Feb. 17, 2012 Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Westbrock Funeral Home located at 1712 Wayne Avenue, Dayton, Ohio. This historic landmark was chosen because of Carol's love for antiques and old houses. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at the Apostolic Lighthouse Church, 2221 Harshman Road, Riverside, Ohio. The Memorial Service will commemorate her 38 years of faithful membership, 28 of which she served as the beloved First Lady. Due to expected weather conditions, the family will hold a private committal service at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio. Carol Mae Ludvigsen Shearer was born in Clintonville, Wisconsin, on August 16, 1928 and lived until February 17, 2012. She was the youngest of five children born to Christopher and Mary (Beckman) Ludvigsen. She grew up in North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and always maintained a close friendship with Ann Jones Stajich, her first grade friend. At the age of 18, she traveled by train to San Antonio, Texas to attend International Bible College. Carol graduated on May 30, 1949. The very next day she married Reverend Huss Shearer of Bay City, Texas. Carol and her husband traveled as evangelists before accepting the pastorate of First Pentecostal Church (UPC) in Boling, Texas. In June, 1955 they were elected as pastors of First Pentecostal Church (UPC) in Texarkana, Texas. Following 19 years of successful ministry they were elected to the pastorate of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Dayton, Ohio. Together with her husband, they established The Lighthouse Christian School (K-12) in 1978. Growth in both the church and school dictated the construction of a school gymnasium, classrooms, office complex and the present sanctuary. As First Lady, she played a key role in the substantial growth and success of each congregation. Carol enthusiastically participated in the activities of the church and was much loved. She served as the President of the Ladies Auxiliary Ohio District UPC; a major fund raising arm of the Ohio District. Carol was preceded in death by her parents Christopher and Mary Ludvigsen, her sister Lois Russell and beloved husband Reverend Huss Shearer. She is survived by her children John Shearer (Janet), Dallas TX, Joy Shearer Veris (Steve), Oakwood OH, and Chris Shearer (Judy), Saraland AL; grandchildren Kristin Shearer Vaughn (Brian), Pensacola FL, Christopher Shearer (Kellie) Saraland AL, Ce'Ce Shearer Dallas TX, and Great Grandchild, Blaydin Shearer Saraland AL. Survivors also include her sister Marion Palmer, Albuquerque NM, and brothers Roy Ludvigsen (Mildred), New Bern NC, Robert Ludvigsen (Laraine) North Fond du Lac WI, cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends Janet Barnes and Marlena Teer. Carol was a lady of sterling character, elegant style, with a quick wit and great humor. She was widely known for her consistency in prayer, encouragement, and sweet spirit. She will always be remembered as a genteel Christian lady.
