Catherine E. Mackey

MACKEY (RASO), CATHERINE E. “KATIE”, age 87 was called home to her heavenly reward on Friday evening, July 11, 2014. Katie was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Tony Raso, her beloved husband of 29 years, Paul J. Mackey, her special Aunt Caroline and Uncle Carmel Umina who lovingly took Katie and her brother into their home when they were orphaned and her cousin, Rosalie Feagans. Ironically, her brother Frank Raso of St. Louis passed away on the same day as Katie. She is survived by her beloved cousin, Elizabeth Naughton; her brothers-in-law: James, John and Thomas Mackey; sisters-in-law: Ruth Mackey, Nance Mackey, Anita Mackey and Peggy Raso. Many cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of many friends also survive her. Katie was a graduate of Julienne High School and the University of Dayton. She taught at Julienne High School, Miami Jacobs Business College and in her later years taught English and Business Skills at various learning centers. She attended St. Anthony Church where she served in many various ministries. She and her husband, Paul were instrumental in supporting the Lee Family who were refugees from Vietnam; a family that she cared for and kept in contact with throughout the years. Katie was a loving and giving woman who was completely devoted to her God. She practiced her faith with zeal and love. All who ever met her were touched by her sincerity. She was a blessing to all. She had a special devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary- giving rosaries to all she met. It was her way of serving her God, even when confined to a nursing home. She was especially grateful to her nieces who cared for her in their own special way in these later years: Jeanette Sprouse, Geralyn and Susie Klase, Mary Beth and Barbara Luchsinger and Melissa Zimmer. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 15th from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 820 Bowen Street, Dayton. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery after Mass. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Anthony Church.
