Age 88 of Centerville, passed away Friday, Oct 23, 2020. Born Aug 12, 1932, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Dayton, OH, he was the third of eight
children and eldest son of the late Alfred J. & Dorothy A. (Brun) Sendelbach. He was preceded in death by his sister Rita M. Sendelbach, brothers Eugene L. Sendelbach and Paul J. Sendelbach, and grandson Griffen H. Tyson. Charlie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth (Zimmerman) Sendelbach; son Charles Jr. (Alecia) of Westerville, OH & their daughters Cailin (Brandy) Sheldon-Sendelbach of Beavercreek, OH, Kylee Williams (Cameron) of Minneapolis, MN & Carly Sendelbach of Canal Winchester, OH; son Mark (Leah) of Bellbrook, OH & their children David & Sarah; and daughter Karin (Bill) Tyson of Plain City, OH & their daughter Avery. Charlie is also survived by sisters Doris Krafka of Washington Twp. OH; Janet Waag of Centerville, OH & Shirley (Gene) Hausfeld of Kettering, OH; brother Don (Irma) Sendelbach of Mt. Prospect, IL; sister-in-law Elaine Sendelbach of Washington Twp; brothers-in-law Herb (Helen) Zimmerman of Longmont, CO & Paul (Terry) Zimmerman of Lyons, CO; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins (many in Germany), special friends & wonderful neighbors. He loved his family, adored his grandchildren, loved to work at his computer doing genealogy research, organizing pictures of old buildings around Dayton that were replaced with new, playing his piano, completing woodworking projects & dreaming of the days when he flew his own plane. Charlie graduated from Chaminade High School in 1950 and soon joined the Navy. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served nearly three years aboard the carrier USS Midway CVB-41 & later over one year at Port Lyautey, French Morocco. He worked at Delco Moraine, a division of General Motors, and started night school at the University of Dayton. Charlie retired from Delco Moraine in 1987 & was active in their various retirement groups and called himself the ‘Roster Meister’. He was also active in several volunteer positions for many years at Incarnation Church including lector, school board president, and a Sunday morning usher. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 11:00 am on Friday, October 30, 2020, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian burial at noon at Incarnation Catholic Church, 55 Williamsburg Lane, Centerville OH. Due to health concerns, masks and social distancing are required. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided. Private family interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420.
