BRINKMAN, CHARLES L., SR.. passed away on February 23, 2012 at the wonderful age of 99.
He was born on November 15, 1912, in Dayton Oh., to Louis G. Brinkman and Isabelle M. Holtvoight Brinkman. He grew up in St. Anthony's parish, attended Chaminade High School, and graduated from the University of Dayton, with a degree in engineering, Class of 1933.
Charles married Romania Carlin in 1937, and served in the army during WWII attaining the rank of captain in 1943. He was President of Brinkman Tool & Die, from 1947 to 1984. During his career he had obtained numerous patents all furthering the tool and die industry. He was a member of the Dayton Tooling & Machining Association (DTMA), and, after serving in other positions he, in 1966, served as President of the National Tooling & Machining Association (NTMA). He traveled extensively in that role, to promote American manufacturing and training.
Charles was a founding member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Kettering, and contributed greatly to Pious XII in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and St. Anthanasius in Harrison, MI. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 500 and was trophy bearing bowler and won a dance contest with his beloved wife. He enjoyed boating, golfing and loved to shared his place in Michigan with many friends and family
In addition to his wife, Romania Carlin Brinkman, of 59 years, he was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert J. Brinkman, sisters Margaret Thaler and Mary Alice Fenelon.
Grateful for having shared his life are his sisters, Jeanette Stragand of Kettering, and Ruth Woolley, of Miamisburg, and his sister-in-law, Jean Brinkman, of Çenterville and he will be sorely missed by his five children: Charles L Jr (& Janet), John (& Charlene) of Centerville, Cheryl Brennan, of Xenia, OH, Pat (&Mike) Keeney, West Palm Beach, FL, and Carlyn (&Jim)Conerty, Ft. Lauderdale, FL,) 19 grandchildren: Carol (Jeff), Eric, Scott (Kelly), Julie, John (Michelle), Jeff, Doug (Patti), David (Jenn), Debbie (Randy), Terry Michael, Charlie (Tracey), Lisa, Kevin, Michelle, Jim (Sheri), Jason, Michelle, Stephanie (Steven) and Janine and 22 great grandchildren and numerous other friends and relatives whose lives were touched by him.
His children wish to thank all the caregivers at Oak Creek Terrace and at Hospice of Dayton, and a special thanks to our dear friend and caregiver, Lisa Liskany Evans for her loving care and time given to our father. He loved her taking him out on long drives. Also a special thanks to all the visitors who helped pass the time with him.
Visitation will be 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26th at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00 Noon on Monday, February 27th at St. Albert the Great Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave, Kettering. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton or Holy Redeemer Church in Vanceburg, Kentucky.
