SCHAEFER, CHARLES J., age 81 of Centerville passed away, Thursday, November 29, 2012. Chuck was born August 12, 1931 and was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Ruth Schaefer and a son, Mike Schaefer. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Schaefer; children: Mary Lynn (Bob) Yux, Mark (Carol) Schaefer, and Dan (Juliette) Schaefer; grandchildren: Tony and Matthew Yux, Jessica, Elizabeth, and Charlie Schaefer; brother, Jack (Rita) Schaefer; sisters-in-law: Jean Vincke and Elaine Bellert, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by life-long friends: Betty and George Lowry, and Jim Fisher. Chuck began his career as co-owner of the Schaefer Christmas Tree Lot. He continued his career at St. Elizabeth Hospital, AeroProducts, Ledex, Lowe Brothers, Specialty Papers Corporation, and James River. He was a 1949 graduate of Chaminade High School and a 1953 graduate of the University of Dayton. Chuck was a UD sports fanatic and a basketball season ticket holder for 58 years. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He enjoyed golf to the fullest and was a member of Sugar Valley Golf Course for 25 years. He enjoyed snowmobiling as the "Lead Dog" and was a co-founding member of Dream Big Racing Stable. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dayton for all of their care and compassion given to Chuck in his final days. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 3rdat St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike, Centerville. Burial will follow the Mass atCalvary Cemetery.
