Borgert, Cyril B., "Cy", age 91, of Beavercreek, passed away Wednesday February 8, 2012 at Oak Creek Terrace. Cy was born November 21, 1920 in St. Sebastian, OH. to Theodore & Anna (Will) Borgert. Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and mentor, highly respected by his family, relatives and peers. Cy was a decorated WWII Navy veteran receiving numerous prestigious decorations for bravery. Throughout the war he served with distinction as a member on one of the Navy's Special Reconnaissance Teams. Special missions took him to the Atlantic, European, and Pacific Theaters of war. On three separate occasions his missions brought him into contact with the crew of PT109. On one of these occasions he spent several days with the crew before his transportation back to the fleet could be arranged. As a result, he developed a close friendship and bond with the eventual President John Kennedy and crew, and earned the nickname "Bogie". Cy has been a lifetime member of VFW Post 9927. Following retirement from NCR he worked several more years at Hobart Corporation. Over the years he worked as a volunteer at St. Mary's, Ascension, and Emmanuel Catholic parishes, and also at Alter and Carroll High Schools. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 ½ years, Dorothy Borgert "Dottie"; sisters, Rosemary Borgert Bittner, Regina Ewald, Rita Ann Bonbright; brothers, Val Borgert, and Ted Borgert, Jr. Cy is survived by his daughter, Sharon Borgert; sons, Doug (Karole) Borgert, John (Jeanne) Borgert; three grandchildren, Theresa (Gerald) Weed, Joseph Borgert and Gregory Borgert; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Nickolas Weed; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Borgert and Grace Lee; a brother-in-law, Charlie Wehner; and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial 10:30am Saturday at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 149 Franklin Street, Dayton, OH. 45402, preceded by a visitation from 9:00am – 10:30am at the Church, with Fr. Patrick J. Tonry, S.M. presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Church or to the Marianist Missions, 119 Franklin Street, Dayton, OH. 45402.
