David "Dave" Leo Edwards

David “Dave” Leo Edwards,59, of Pataskala, formerly of Bellbrook passed away March 6th, 2023.
Dave was born January 13th, 1964, to Bill and Sandy Edwards. He landed in the middle of the five Edwards kids with a brother and sister on each end. Dave, in true middle child fashion, was different than the others. He tended to be a bit more reserved, the peacemaker of the sibling battles, did his homework and kept his room tidy, which was no small feat with three brothers sharing a room!
Dave graduated from Bellbrook High School in 1982 and earned an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from ITT Technical Institution. In 1984, he acquired a job with the Defense Supply Center Columbus (formally Defense Electronic Supply Center) where he worked until his retirement in 2020.
From a young age, Dave excelled in all sports. The Edwards house was home base for many of the neighborhood pickup games and those games continued throughout school and his adult life. Dave played baseball, football, volleyball, softball, and basketball. With Dave’s size, timing, and his ability to do most things left and right-handed, he was truly an incredible athlete. Most notably, his cool as ice demeanor on the court earned him the nickname, “IceMan”, which stuck with him for his entire life. Dave was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cincinnati Reds, and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Dave had a passion for music. He taught himself to play piano and guitar. He was always strumming and/or humming a variety of different tunes but his beloved Beatles were always his go to. Dave probably knew more about the Beatles than Sir Paul himself.
The Edwards family grew up going to Lake Cumberland which grew his lifelong love of fishing and camping. One of Dave’s favorite pastimes was sitting by a campfire (even when it was 90 degrees) playing his guitar and enjoying the company of his family and friends. Some of his best days were spent fishing with his brothers and friends on their frequent “guys trip.” Lots of laughter, jokes, and pictures of the fish they caught were in abundance. His love of the lake and being on the water was passed on to his daughters who still share the same passion. Dave loved seeing his daughter Sara sing in the choir, watching his daughter Brooke play volleyball, and strumming cords on the guitar while his daughter Madie sang. Dave was incredibly proud that all three of his girls were college graduates.
Dave was preceded in death by his brother Darrin Edwards and his father Bill Edwards.
Dave is survived by his three daughters Sara Edwards, Brooke (Conrad) Miller, Madie Edwards, their mother Chrisse Edwards, grandchildren Isabelle and Jonah Miller, mother Sandy Edwards, sister Debbie (Mike) Gross, brother Denny (Jackie) Edwards, sister Dianne (Bryan) Westbrock, sister-in-law Heather (Doug) Umstead, nephews and nieces Josh, Amanda, Jess, Jared, Jana, Elise, Emily, Maren and Leo plus a host of extended family and many friends.
Family will receive guests Tuesday March 14th from 4-6pm at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Rd Kettering, OH 45440.
There will be a memorial service immediately following at 6pm.
Dave was a great conversationalist; he could talk on the phone for hours! He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He truly loved his entire family, especially his girls. Dave leaves us with a large void, but we hold tight to the many beautiful memories we have and take peace knowing Dave is reunited with Darrin and his dad. Rest easy Davey, Dave, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Dave, Iceman, until we meet again.
