BARHORST, Dennis F., age 83 of Xenia, passed away peacefully May 14, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born February 1, 1934 in Newport, Ohio the son of Henry & Hilda (Middendorf) Barhorst. Dennis is survived by his wife of 18 years, Alice Barhorst, and children: Michael Barhorst of Dayton, Melanie Gerosa (Garrett) of Powell, Ohio and Maria Illig (Jack) of Powell, Ohio; grandchildren: Michael Barhorst Jr. and Ethan Barhorst of Dayton, Jackson, Bella, and Porter Illig of Powell, Ohio and Giada and Gianni Gerosa of Powell, Ohio; brothers, Lester (Jeannie) of Sidney, and Henry (Pat) of Minster; sisters, Betty Grilliot of Sidney, Ohio, Janet (Bernard) Koverman of Newport, Ohio, and Mary Ann Davis of Sidney, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara A. Barhorst; a infant brother Lester, brothers, Harry, Donald, and James Barhorst; sisters, and brothers-in-law, Eileen and Francis Shappie and Thelma and Ed Luebke; and brother-in-law, Ernie Grilliot. Dennis proudly served in the United States Army and then went on to become a licensed Barber for a number of years. He then worked in Skilled Trades at General Motors, retiring in 1998 after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church for over 50 years. Dennis was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and loved spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He was a kind gentle man who never knew a stranger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 19 at 10:00 am at St. Helen Catholic Church in Riverside, Ohio with Fr. Satish Joseph celebrant, preceded by a prayer service, 9:30 am at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. Family and friends may call on Thursday, May 18 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton, in memory of Dennis.
