Rau, Dolores V., age 92, of Kettering, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Dolores, or “Dee”, as she was known to family and friends, made her life’s work her love for and devotion to her husband and children. A lifelong resident of the Dayton area, Dee graduated from St. Anthony Grade School and Julienne High School, after which she had a brief career as a secretary for a downtown law firm until she married and started a family. She and her husband, Joseph, were married in 1947, and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Together, they had six children: Thomas (Pat), of Oakwood, Peggy Mays (Brian) and Stephen (JoAnne), of Centerville, Carole Neubauer (Don) and Michael, both of Kettering and Mary Hamburg (Mark) of Morrow. Dolores was a devout Catholic and member of St. Albert the Great Church for 64 years. Both she and her husband were active members of the parish throughout their lives. In their retirement years the two enjoyed traveling with each other and friends, and maintained their lifelong schedule of “Sunday drives” to visit family and to enjoy the countryside. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; parents, Ed and Leona (Wellmeier) Mauch; her sisters, Lois Thalheimer and Mary Lou Raiff. Survivors include all of her children and their spouses; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia (Joe) Wade; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul Rau, Fred and Helen Rau, and Martha Beall, and many nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by her very good neighbors of more than 50 years, Helen Dominic and Joe Wilhelm. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, January 2 at The Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Avenue in Dayton. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 3, at 12:00 noon at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3303 Far Hills Avenue in Kettering. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
