CASEY, Donald, 84, died Wednesday, July 8, 2020 following a lengthy illness.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Stern) Casey; his daughter, Donna (Terry) Bova; sons, Michael (Darlene) Casey and Stephen (Melissa) Casey. He is survived by one sister, Karen Zimmer. He has eight grandchildren, Stephen (Jamie) Casey, Heather Casey, Matthew (Sarah) Bova, Kristina (Kyle) Maus, Anthony (Rachel) Casey, Emily (Danny) Grimes, Nicholas Bova, Ryan (Darla) Casey and one great-grandchild, Montgomery Grimes.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Peter and Virginia (Detzel) Casey. Also preceding him in death is a sister, Mary Ann Hoh.
He graduated from Elder High School in Cincinnati and from Xavier University in 1958 with a degree in Mathematics. He was a very avid fan of these two schools.
He and his family moved to Dayton in 1961. He worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base for 38 years, retiring in 1997. He and his family became members of Church of the Ascension in 1961 and he was very active in the church, working in many ministries. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 14891 and has also been an oblate of St. Meinrad Archabbey in Indiana for over 25 years.
He and his wife Ruth loved to travel and did so frequently. He was a loving, caring grandpa and rarely missed any of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved it when they gave him a big hug.
Friends and family may visit from 10:00am-12:00 pm on Monday, July 13 at Church of the Ascension followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm. He will then be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
