Donald Howard Montgomery, 51, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019. He was born on May 18, 1968, the only child of Don and Sue Montgomery, in Dallas, Texas, but spent most of his life in the Dayton area. He married the love of his life, Lyn Marie (Mominee), on August 18, 1990. He leaves behind to cherish his memory Lyn and their children Zachary, Alexander, and Jessica Lyn (Kyle) Hollinger as well as his parents, mother-in-law Linda Mominee, sister-in-law, Cindy Mominee, brother-in-law, Nicholas Mominee, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, William A. Mominee.
Donald grew up in Beavercreek, OH and was a 1986 graduate of Beavercreek High School. He worked summer breaks with his father learning the electrical trade. After one year of college, he decided to serve his country and joined the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1990. He returned to college and worked fulltime with his parents in the electrical business and together built Montgomery & Son Electric Service in Dayton. After his father’s retirement, Donald and his wife continued to grow the business where he established himself as a well-respected businessman.
Donald was eager to start his life with Lyn and begin a family. Raising the children with Lyn, watching them flourish and admiring the young adults they are today, was his greatest joy. He was an extremely proud and loving son, husband and father.
Donald joined the Knights of Columbus Council #4022 with encouragement from his father-in-law. He became a 3rd Degree Knight, served as Deputy Grand Knight and Family Director. For many years, he and his family were active in the Council.
Donald enjoyed playing cards, throwing darts, hosting cookouts, and playing trivia. A self-proclaimed nerd, Donald was a skilled Magic the Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons player. He looked forward to hanging out with The Nerds each week. He was a huge sports fan, cheering on his favorite teams, the Reds, The OSU and the Cowboys.
Donald’s quick wit, passion, faith and integrity served him well in all areas of his life. He delighted in his family and friends. He will be remembered by those he left behind as a kind and caring man who valued the love of God and his family above all treasures.
Visitation will be held at Westbrock Funeral Home at 1712 Wayne Ave., Dayton, OH on Thursday, August 22nd from 2 – 8 pm. A prayer service will be held at 7 pm where family and friends will be invited to share memories.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12 pm on Friday, August 23rd at St. Albert the Great, Kettering, OH.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Knights of Columbus, Council #4022 in care of St. Albert the Great Church.
