Emblem

Donald F. Waker, 90, of Riverside, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024. Born on August 18, 1934, to Aloysius and Mary Waker. Don was a devoted family man, and a treasured member of his community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Mary, and his siblings Ray, Clem, and Mary Lou. He is survived by his wife or as Don said, "his Bride" of 66 years, Angeline "Angie" Waker; 7 children, Andy (Shirley), Ed (Vicki), Doug, Mary Ann (David) Back, Jenny, Susie (Dave) Mattingly, and Amy (Gene) Blount; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

A 1952 graduate of Fairmont High School, Don proudly served in the U.S. Navy before beginning a long career in the Dayton area. He worked at NCR, Frigidaire, and Delco Products, where he was known for his exceptional skills and strong work ethic. Beyond his professional achievements, Don was a devoted Catholic committed to volunteering and service. He cared for his aunts and uncle-Frank, Sr. Isabel, Rosie, Sally, and Rita-at Walnut Creek, and was a dedicated leader in the Boy Scouts, guiding young people in their spiritual and personal growth through the Parvuli Dei Cub Scouts and Ad Altare Dei programs. Don was also an active member of St. Helen Catholic Church for 65 years. Additionally, he volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul, House of Bread, and Habitat for Humanity.

Don was also a passionate sports fan. He and Angie held season tickets for Wright State University Raiders basketball games for years, a tradition that brought them great joy. He also enjoyed bowling throughout his life, always bringing his quick wit to the lanes. Known for his playful sense of humor, Don had a knack for a clever comeback. If you asked him what he was up to, he'd often reply with a cheeky, "About 5'8" on a good day." If you declined an offer with no, I'm good, his response was usually, "I didn't ask you how you were." And if you politely turned down dinner seconds or money, you'd hear, "Be like that and lose all your friends!"

His sharp humor, quick wit, and lighthearted spirit made him a joy to be around. Don's love for his family was unwavering, and his legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever remain in their hearts.

The family will receive guests from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave., Dayton.
