VanDeGrift, Dorothy "Dottie" Blanche (Weiss) age 85 of Dayton, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012. She was born August 12, 1926 in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late William and Nancy Weiss. Preceded in death by her husband Frederick J. VanDeGrift and one brother Richard Weiss. She is survived by her two daughters; Tari and husband George Steberl of Kettering, OH; Denise and husband James B. Thompson of Centerville, OH; a sister, Juanita McDermott of Gnadenhutten, OH; and her best friend and partner-in-life for the past 18 years, Cletus J. Miller of Kettering and Fulda, OH. Five grandchildren; Jacob Steberl; Hillary and husband Doug Showley; Ayricka Magill; Joshua Thompson; and Dr. Mercedes and husband Michael Palmisano. Two great-grandchildren; Milo Murphy Magill and Lucy Luanne Laux. Many nieces, nephews and friends. Dottie was fashion savvy and loved to shop, cook, travel and play cards. She was a member of the Milton Athletic Club, Eagles 321 Auxiliary and American Legion Post 598 Ladies' Auxiliary. Her favorite getaway was with Cletus, her companion of nearly two decades, to the peace and quiet of Fulda, OH. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 17 from 12-1:00 pm with a memorial service from 1:00-1:30 pm at Westbrock Funeral Home 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The family would like to publicly thank the medical and nursing staffs at both KMC and Hospice of Dayton for their compassionate and loving care.
