Schneider, Edwin John Jr. 82, of Beavercreek, formerly of Erie, PA, Menands, NY, Poland, OH, Upper St. Clair, PA, and Rochester Hills, MI, died January 31, 2017 at Hospice of Dayton. Ed was born September 21, 1934 to Edwin and Mary (Hersperger) Schneider. He graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie in 1952, and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, OH in 1956 and 1958. Upon completion of 3 years of service in the Air Force at Wright-Patterson, he married Carol Tullis of Dayton on July 29, 1961. They moved to New York where Ed received his PhD at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1965. After 28 years as a Metallurgical Engineer for the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company, Jones and Laughlin Steel Company, and US Steel, he retired in 1993. Member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, ASM, AIME, and the Society of Automotive Engineers. Preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Margaret, Ed is survived by his wife and caregiver Carol of Beavercreek, daughters and sons-in-law Laura and Paul Eloe of Xenia, and Amy and George Heller of Fishers, IN; sons and daughters-in-law Paul and Sarah Schneider of Glen Rock, NJ and Jonathan and Joan Schneider of Latham, NY; grandchildren Nathan Eloe and his wife Wendy of Maryville, MO, Mary Katherine Eloe of Denver, CO, Christopher, Erin, and Joshua Heller of Fishers, IN, Jordan Schneider of Glen Rock, NJ, and Daniel and Abigail Schneider of Latham, NY; and cousin Jean McFarland of Erie, PA. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike in Centerville, OH. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. All of us in Ed’s family express our deep gratitude to those at Miami Valley and Kettering Hospitals, Lincoln Park Manor, and Hospice of Dayton who helped mom to care for him during his last year.
