Eleanor Lillian Ruth Burger, 95, Centerville, died Friday, February 19 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born June 5, 1914, in Willow Lake, South Dakota, to Anton Ackerman and Hilma Nelson Ackerman. She graduated from Willow Lake High School and attended Northern State Teachers College. She graduated from Black Hill State College, Spearfish, South Dakota. Eleanor married Henry Burger on August 9, 1942, in Rapid City. She taught five years in eastern South Dakota, a number of years in Keystone, and seventeen years in Day School on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. She retired from teaching in 1978. She owned and managed the Sioux Craft Shop in Keystone until 1983. She was past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of Nydia Club, Rebekah Lodge, Daughters of the Nile, and Sons of Norway. She was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City where she taught Sunday School and Bible Studies for many years. She was a volunteer at Rapid City Regional Hospital, managing the Gift Shop, and opening her home to families of patients needing long-term treatment and convalescence. Eleanor moved to Dayton in 1994. She volunteered at Heartland of Centerville and South Dayton Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her niece, Dot Weldon of Centerville, and three cousins, Karen Vlieger, Betty Ackerman, and Bob Ackerman of Las Vegas, Nevada.Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 28, at South Dayton Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Mark Cary officiating. The family suggests memorials to South Dayton Presbyterian Church (SDPC) Building Fund, 1180 E.
