Elizabeth (Lisa) Mary Sharkey Parilo, age 47, passed away at home on Friday following a two-year battle with cancer. Lisa lived as normal a life as possible while undergoing treatment. She delighted in attending her son Daniel's soccer games, running distance races, participating in book club, Mom's club and various charities. Her determination and loving spirit were an inspiration to friends and family.
Lisa graduated from Alter High School, attended the University of Hawaii and graduated from the Ohio State University with a BA in journalism. She later received a full academic scholarship to University of Cincinnati College of Law, where she graduated with honors. She practiced law at Faruki, Ireland and Cox until her son was born.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Dr. Miguel Parilo, son Daniel; mother, Mary Lou McCarthy; brother Jeff, sister-in-law Michelle, and their children, Bryan and Jennie Sharkey, all of Centerville; brothers Kevin Sharkey of Columbia, Missouri, and Cory Sharkey, Columbus, Ohio; step-mother Claire Sharkey,
Oakwood; aunt Mary Anne Sharkey of Vermilion; uncle Nick Sharkey of Northville, Michigan; and uncle Joe Sharkey of Vandalia, plus many loving cousins. Also survived by mother-in-law, Sara Bolinger, Centerville; father-in-law
Juan M. Parilo of Maineville, brother-in-law Juan F. and wife Robin Parilo, of Austin, TX; sister-in-law Mariella and Morshed and daughter Isabel Chowdhury of West Chester, Pennsylvania; and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Gerald (Jerry) Sharkey.
Visitation 4-8pm Tuesday at Westbrock Funeral Home, Wayne Avenue, Dayton.
Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, Centerville, at 10:30 am Wednesday.
