Melke, Elvera (“Babe”) M. (Flohre, McGuire), age 87, of Kettering, passed away Tuesday March 8th, 2016. She was born February 12, 1929 in Dayton, OH., attended St. Anthony’s grade school and graduated from Parker Co-Op High School in 1947. She was preceded in death by parents Norbert J. (Whitey), Norma E. Flohre; stepmother Gertrude M. Flohre; husbands William A. Melke and Kelly M. McGuire, both having served in the military; a son Keith M. McGuire and brothers Sir Robert N., William A. and Joseph W. Flohre. She is survived by sons James M. McGuire of Cincinnati, Kelly W. McGuire of Corona, CA., children Colleen, Cynthia, Jeremy; daughters Barbara M. McGuire of Denver, CO., children Mary Clare, James and Joseph Moffett, Susan M. McGuire and Peter Seaman of Sacramento, CA., daughters Claire and Amelia; her brothers, John P. and Edward F. Flohre; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Babe was a former long distance telephone operator in the 1950’s. She retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in 1993. She worked part time at many offices through a temp agency. She then retired from the work force for the last time at the age of 80 years young. Babe enjoyed her many trips to California and Colorado to visit with her grandbabies. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. A special thank you to Brookdale of Oakwood and Hospice of Dayton for all of their loving care. The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7pm at The Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 11:00am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, preceded by a prayer service at 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. (Office of Development-Retirement Needs 701 E.
