Ferdinand (Ferd) J. Loykovich, Age 98, died peacefully on Monday morning, October 26, 2009 at St. Leonard's Senior Community in Centerville, Ohio. Ferd Loykovich was born on August 4, 1911, in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, and was a resident of Mansfield, Ohio until three years ago, when he and his wife Helen, to whom he was married for over 67 years and who preceded him in death in May 2008, moved to the Health and Rehabilitation Center at St. Leonard's.
Ferd Loykovich was also preceded in death by his parents, Frank S. and Anna Fekete Loykovich, a sister Clementine Loykovich Feigenbaum, and daughter Mary Helen Loykovich. Mr. Loykovich is survived by his daughter Joan Loykovich of New York, New York, daughter Cherie Mulcahy and son-in-law Robert Mulcahy of Dayton, Ohio, granddaughter Kelly Meyer and her husband Anthony Meyer, granddaughter Christine Carrier and her husband Heath Carrier, great granddaughter Molly Grace Meyer, and great grandson Grant Edwin Carrier, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, nieces Barbara Ann Furedy of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Patricia Morey of Mansfield, Ohio and nephew James C. Morton of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Ferd Loykovich had been a member of St. Peter's Church of Mansfield since 1918, when the family moved there from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of St. Peter's High School. Ferd followed his father into the tool and die profession and like his father was an employee of Westinghouse Electric Corporation, rising from tool maker to tool engineer in a career that spanned 47 years with the Company. Ferd Loykovich was also a life member of the National Rifle Association and Blackhawk Rifle Club and a 36-year rifle instructor with the Friendly House of Mansfield as well as a member and officer of the Richland Gasco Rifle and Pistol Club. For approximately 75 years, Ferd was an active member of the Possum Run Golf Club. In the 1930s and 40s, he was active in Mansfield Community Players and in later years, he became active in the Mansfield Liederkranz.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Ferd at St. Leonard's Church by his family on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. The family will receive from 12:00 p.m. until time of Mass. Final interment will be in the Mansfield, Ohio Catholic Cemetery on Friday, October 30, 2009. In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to send a gift remembering Ferd Loykovich to St. Leonard's Foundation, 8100 Clyo Road, Centerville, Ohio 45458.
