Skuns, George J.
age 78 of Oakwood passed away on February 22, 2018. He was born on August 22, 1939 to the late Joseph and Nellie(Bogusinskas) Skuns. Also preceding him in death is sister Joanna Abbate and brother-in-law Joseph Abbate.
George is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Linda (Arvin) Skuns, nieces Laurenn (Brad) Smith, Lisa (Kevin) O’Brien, nephew, Gregory Abbate, 3 great nieces, and 1 great nephew, and many dear friends
He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Cleveland and the University of Dayton in 1961.
George worked for Abbott Laboratories for over 32 years in Cleveland, Kansas City, Detroit, and Chicago. He retired as Director of Integrated Sales and moved to Chapel Hill, NC until 2003 when he and Linda moved to Dayton, OH.
He was a man of strong principles, who was proud of his Lithuanian heritage, lived his faith, and loved his family. He enjoyed tennis, golf, fly fishing and playing guitar and was an avid UD basketball fan. He was on the Executive Board of The University of Dayton Alumni Association and chair of the Golden Flyers.
Friends and family may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday March 2 at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave., Dayton. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church. He will then be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Skuns Scholarship Fund at UD, St. Vincent DePaul, or the Food Bank.
