Moorman, Gerald “Jerry” William, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday November 26th, 2016 in Kettering, Ohio. Jerry was born on August 27th, 1931 to John Reuben and Florentine (Sutter) in Dayton, Ohio. He went to school at St. Mary’s Class of 45 and Chaminade Catholic School Class of 49 and attended the University of Dayton. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1951 and served in Korea until 1954. Jerry married his beloved wife, Emily Patricia Dashiell on January 15th, 1955. He worked as a computer system analyst at Wright Patt Airforce Base until 1990. During his retirement, he delivered cookies for Cookies by Design. Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Druids, and an active member at St. Mary’s Holy Name. He served as secretary in various bowling leagues and enjoyed playing slow pitch baseball. Jerry traveled the world with his family. His two favorite trips were to Australia with his grandson Andy and to Rome where he had an audience with Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, to celebrate his 51st wedding Anniversary with Pat. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; brothers & sisters Wilbur, Louetta, Eldon, Eugene, Marie, Elwood, Ruth, James and Grandson Andy. Jerry is survived by his wife Emily Patricia “Pat” of 61 years; his four children; daughter Theresa (Jim) Staley; son Dean Moorman; daughter Julie Moorman; daughter Debbie (Dave) Streithorst; seven grandchildren; Nicole Moorman, Laura Staley (Avi Schwab), Deanna Moorman (Adam Clark), Brittany Moorman (Ronnie Duncan), Allison Streithorst, Nathan Streithorst and Sam Staley; seven great-grandchildren; Aiden Moorman, Rory Grace Hughes, Hunter Duncan, Jase Duncan, Gabrial Clark, Arabella Clark, and Calliope Schwab. Jerry also leaves behind his sisters Audrey (Leroy) Sherwood, “Jeannie” (Matt) Mayer, sisters-in-law Inga Moorman, and Betty Jo Moorman and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dayton. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-7pm at The Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, St. Mary Church or the Alzheimer’s Assn.
