WOOD, H. Joseph Jr., age 77 passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013. Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rosemary Winner Wood and his sister Patricia Wood. He is survived by his daughters Beth (Rodney) Dabagian, Kathy (Mike) Drury, and Kim (Phil) Nassmacher; his sons Jeff (Kathy), John (Beth), and Jim (Marylou) Wood; 16 grandchildren Hannah, Samantha, Annie, Mackenzie, Matthew, Erik, Zachary, Olivia, Maggie, Jacob, Caroline, Claire, Emma, Lauren, Jack, and Allison; and his sister Alice Carroll.
Joe was born in Trenton, New Jersey. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a short stint in the Air Force, he moved to Dayton, Ohio to work at Wright Patterson AFB. Shortly after moving to Dayton, Joe met Rosemary and they started their life together. Joe worked his entire career as an aircraft engineer at Wright Patterson. The lasting impact of his work is still evident in the engines of many of our military aircraft still flying today. Despite these accomplishments, his longest lasting impact is felt through the lives of his children and grandchildren and the many others whom he touched. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and he will be missed by all who loved him.
Visitation in his honor will be held Sunday, July 7 from 4:30 – 7:00pm at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 8 at 10:30 am at St. Leonard's Chapel, 3100 Clyo Road, Centerville. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery after the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
