Harlan Brookshire Angel Jr., 68, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, with family by his side. Born on April 8, 1956, Harlan will be remembered for his self-assured nature, creativity, and unique perspective on the world.
Earlier in life, Harlan worked as a water well driller, owned a furniture delivery and assembly business, and worked as a computer programmer. However, more than any job title, he was known for being an exceptional handyman who could build or fix anything. From cars to computers to houses, there was little he couldn't do. Whether it was electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, or fixing whatever was broken, he had an incredible talent for problem-solving and took pride in his ability to figure things out. If someone he knew had a home project, Harlan was the one they called for help-always willing to lend his skills and expertise.
Harlan earned an Associate of Science degree in Computer Science Technology, further showcasing his love of learning and innovation.
He was incredibly smart and known for his clever way of thinking. A natural problem-solver, he approached challenges with resourcefulness and creativity. He was charming and engaging in conversation, and on topics he knew well, he was a trusted source of insight.
He enjoyed life's simple pleasures: drinking an Ale-8-One, watching movies from his vast collection, and working with his hands on various projects. He also loved playing chess and other board games, dancing, singing, fishing, drawing, and painting. He was well-organized, with a distinct way of doing things, and he cared deeply for the people and things that mattered most to him.
Harlan shared a special bond with his daughter, Brandi Esteé Angel Bleak, who he deeply loved. He is survived by Brandi and her husband Robert Bleak, his beloved grandson Benjamin Bleak, his sisters, Rhonda Mansfield and Shannan Rogers, and his former spouse, Jeanine Angel.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ezell Rogers; his father, Harlan B. Angel Sr.; and his stepfather, Bud Rogers.
A graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio, on February 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., and will be officiated by Pastor John Neeley. Those who would like to attend should meet at Woodland at 1:45 p.m. behind the hearse, just past the Woodland Ave. gate. Arrangements are being handled by Westbrock Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to assist with funeral expenses would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to support, donations can be made here.
