Helen Schmitz, born March 23, 1923 in St. Sebastian, OH to the late Edward and Eleanora (Kramer) Schwieterman, died January 29, 2017. She married Cletus E. Schmitz on October 19, 1946 in Burkettsville, OH and he preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by an infant son Joseph, her brothers Arnold (Luella), Matthew (Coletta), Louis and Cyril Schwieterman, her sisters Alvera Clericus, Cordula (Norbert) Schmitz and Rita (Roman) Wannemacher and in-laws Werner (Rita), Gregor (Genevieve), Victor and Donald Schmitz, Marcella (Albert) Knapke and Mary Ann Schwieterman. Survived by her children David (Jeanette) Schmitz of Dayton, Jane (David) Stickel of Kettering and William (Christine Sistare) of Perkasie, PA. Also surviving are grandchildren Lara Schmitz (Thomas Nelson Jr.), Andria Shaman, Matthew (Rebecca) Schmitz, Jeffrey (Jessica) Stickel, Jessica Stickel (Carmella Castro), Hannah Schmitz and Austin Schmitz, brother Ivo Schwieterman of Cathagena, OH and sister-in-law Merdella Schwieterman of Cranberry Prairie, OH.
Helen moved Dayton in 1941 and graduated from Patterson Co-op HS in 1943. She worked at Dayton Auto Club (AAA) from 1943 until1947 when she started her family. She was a member of St. Anthony's Parish since 1954 and Eucharistic Minister for 20 years.
The family is grateful for the loving care she received from the Carlyle House Staff and Hospice of Dayton. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 5 from 4-7 pm and Monday, February 6 from 9-9:30 am at Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave., Dayton OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 6 at 10 am at St. Anthony Church, 830 Bowen St., Dayton, preceded by prayer service at 9:30 at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Anthony's Parish or Carlyle House Employee Fund.
