Reverend Herbert W. Hoover, Sr. born to the late M.M. and Elsie Hoover November 19, 1919 went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2015. Herb graduated from Patterson Co-Op High School in 1937 and from Bob Jones University in 1944. He received a Master’s degree in Sacred Music from B.J.U. and became interim Chair of the Fine Arts Department there. Herb married classmate Florence Gibson McNeill in 1945 and travelled the nation as song leader and soloist with Youth For Christ and other evangelistic crusades. He recorded his first gospel music album on Word Records during those years. Herb was an elder at First Baptist Church in Centerville, Ohio before starting a fellowship in his home. This became Christ Community Church. The congregation built a church building, without bank financing, at Upper Bellbrook and South Alpha Bellbrook Road in 1997.
Herb was predeceased by his brother Robert M. Hoover and his sister Joan Abby. Besides his wife, Rev. Hoover leaves behind to cherish his memory his son Timothy (Rusty Moe) and Herbert, Jr. (Zindy Taylor); his grandchildren Ryan (Lillian Bayley) Hoover of Baltimore, MD; Chad Hoover of Davis, CA; Andrea (Brian) Malevich of Morrow, OH; And Lauren (Todd) Mikesell of Xenia, OH; and his great-grandchildren, Abigail Malavich, Luke Mikesell, Alexander Malalvich, and Avanell Mikesell. A celebration of Herbert Hoover’s life will take place on Saturday, September 5, at 12:00 PM, at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering, with Calling from 10:00 AM until the celebration. Burial will be in Bellbrook Cemetery, 3939 Upper Bellbrook Road, Bellbrook, Ohio.
