Howard Thomas Ackerman passed away September, 7, 2022 at home with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert & LaVita Ackerman, brothers, Donald Ackerman (wife Barb Ackerman) and James Ackerman, son-in-law Jim Janovsky (Shirley), mother-in-law Shirley Janning (Kronauge), sister-in-law Lois Kronauge, nephew David Kronauge.
Howard is survived by his devoted loving “Sweetie” of 62 years, Mary (Kronauge) Ackerman. Loving family members; Greg (Joyce) Ackerman, Jennifer (Dennis) Jackson, Eric (Carrie) Ackerman, Shirley (Stephen) Hoselton, Anne Marie (Steve) Petric, 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and dear friends “George and Alice”. Sister-in-law Donna Hunn, brother-in-law Fred Kronauge and wife Carol, brother-in-law Tom Kronauge, and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Howard was a graduate of the University of Dayton with a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He enjoyed employment in the aerospace industry, POS technology industry, and managing production facilities in Dayton and Buffalo, New York.
Howard enjoyed traveling the world with family members and friends, which included special overseas trips with the grandchildren. Howard loved sailing his MaryK, golfing, tennis, and gardening.
Howard’s loyalty in becoming a UD Flyer Basketball fan started as a student working as a cameraman for WHIO-TV covering the UD games. He enjoyed supporting the Men’s and Women’s basketball games at the University of Dayton Arena.
Keeping busy in his retirement years, Howard became a Commissioner for the Bellbrook Sugarcreek Park District for 14 years. He was instrumental in setting the vision and preserving Sweet Arrow Reserve for everyone to enjoy.
A Celebration of Life will be held after Mass at a location to be determined.
