James "Jim" Deime

James (Jim) Edward Deime, 83, of Kettering, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Jim was born on September 2, 1941, in Dayton, OH, the second son of John and Margaret Deime. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Jr., and his sister-in-law Judy Deime and best friend Paul Lammert.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Anna Marie (Ann) Schlegel; his daughter Karen; his son Michael and his wife Jessica; and his beloved granddaughter, Sofie and their dogs Bella and Emma. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends.

Jim graduated from Chaminade, class of 1959 and attended UD and received an associate degree in accounting from Sinclair. His professional career included 27 years with Dayton Superior in Miamisburg, there he worked as Corporate Credit Manager. He and Ann raised their family in Kettering, after initially moving from Columbus, Ohio following their wedding on November 14, 1970.

Jim's life was rooted in faith, family, and service. He was a faithful member of the Catholic Church throughout his life, beginning as an altar boy at Resurrection Church and continuing his commitment to St. Francis of Assisi Church in Centerville. He was deeply involved in the church and its activities, including serving as a Eucharistic Minister, ushering at the 11 a.m. Mass, and being a dedicated member of the Men's Club and Worship Committee. He helped organize the annual golf outing, coordinated the servers at St. Francis for 26 years, and for many years he was a welcoming presence at the parish's Donut Sundays.

In addition to his church service, Jim was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he held numerous leadership positions over the years and received many awards. He was a member of Council 4022 in Kettering and later Council 14504 at St. Francis, and 4th degree member of Father Kuhlman Assembly, served at the state level under State Deputy, Al Hickey and spent much of his time organizing and supporting Knights of Columbus events. His commitment to the Knights of Columbus was unwavering, and he helped shape the organization for many years.

Jim's service extended beyond his church and community. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1964 to 1966. A proud veteran, Jim was also a member of American Legion Post 598 and deeply appreciated the care he received from the Dayton VA since 2020. He took every opportunity to pray for the men and women of the armed forces, remembering them in his prayers and action.

Beyond his many accomplishments and commitments, Jim was a loyal and loving friend. He met Paul Lammert at the age of five, and their friendship remained strong throughout their lives. The bonds he formed with his "gang" of friends was lasting, as they supported each other through life's joys and challenges. Jim will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor and unwavering faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service and devotion to his family, church and country.

The family will receive friends at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Rd. Kettering, OH 45440 on Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 3:00-5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Centerville on TUESDAY, January 7 at 10:30 AM, with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
