James Andrew "Andy" Evans

James Andrew Evans, “Andy”, 55, of Dayton, has joined the Hitchhikers guided tour to the see the galaxy. He departed for this quest on Thursday, July 2nd, 2020 at Hospice of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, as well as the Amazon delivery drivers who are used to visiting him on a daily occurrence.
His departure was preceded by Maternal grandparents Lawrence and Grace Williams of Virginia and Paternal grandparents, James and Ethel Evans of Pennsylvania.
He joined the human race on February 5th, 1965 as the 30th baby to be born at the, then, new Kettering Memorial Hospital in Kettering, Ohio. He was the firstborn child of Jim and Joyce Evans of Springboro, who survive him.
Also surviving is his wife of 6 years, Melissa Gray of Dayton; two daughters, Alyssa Evans of Miamisburg, and Rebecca Evans of Miamisburg; Stepson Alex Gray of San Francisco, California. Two sisters, Laura (Jerry) Woeste of Centerville and Kate (Rob) Barrett of Spring Valley; Nieces, Melanie (AJ) Belleman of Centerville and Eryn Barrett. Nephews, Jacob and Kyle Woeste, and Ruary Barrett; Mother-in-Law, Rose O’Loughlin of Dayton; former wife, Laura (Chris) Michel of Miamisburg; former in-laws, Bruce and Dagmar Michel of Kettering; several Aunts, Uncles, and cousins
Andy was a lifetime resident of the Dayton, Ohio area, with a brief period living in Cincinnati. He attended the “warm and cheerful” school district in Centerville, Ohio. (Please read that last line again using his dry, sarcastic tone.) He was a graduate of Centerville High School (1983) and University of Dayton (1991)
He paid for his online shopping habit by being employed as a self proclaimed “code monkey” for several well-established businesses. He loved spending time with family, spoiling his dogs, taking in concerts, refurbishing guitars and pushing the limits of his 3D printer. Near the end of his life, he took pride in creating protective shields to help others during the Covid-19 outbreak.
A visitation will be held at Westbrock Funeral Home in Dayton, Ohio on July 25, 2020 from 2-4 pm. After the visitation there will be a memorial service. The visitation will be conducted both inside and out. Tents will be set up and hand sanitizer stations will be available both indoors and out. The family encourages casual dress and the wearing concert T-shirts, as that is what Andy would have enjoyed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to:
• Electronic Frontier Foundation – https://www.eff.org
• WYSO radio station – Yellow Springs - https://www.wyso.org/
• American Civil Liberties Union – https://www.aclu.org
