HARDIN, James W. age 85 of Centerville passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010. James was in the US Military where he served with the 3rd Army under General Patton. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, Lathrem Senior Center, Hithergreen Senior Center, and South Dayton Optimist Club and had started the Vandalia Optimist Club. James was fond of playing cards, bowling, chess, speed boat racing and his Indian Motorcycle. He was the President of Coco, which is a Condominium Association and was a speed roller skater as a teenager. James started his employment at Rikes, later went to work at Metropolitan Life Company and retired from Wilson Sign Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Dora; his first wife, Violet, his second wife Barbara; brothers, Keith and Kenneth; sisters, Clara, Mary, Kathleen and a son, Steven. James is survived by his wife Katie; sons; Ted Hardin (Cathy) of Dayton, TX, John Hardin (Janelle) of New Carlisle, OH; step daughter, Sally Heckerman (Dan) of Miamisburg, OH; a sister, Dorothy White of Kettering; six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; twenty nieces; eighteen nephews and numerous cousins. Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 a.m. Thursday January 14 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Rd. Burial will be at Our Lady of Good Hope Cemetery, Miamisburg.
