MAUCH, James R. age 77 of Vandalia passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maryllis; his six children, Joseph James (Jody), Elizabeth Ann (John) Hall, Jeffrey Thomas (Karen), Timothy Charles (Kathryn), Daniel Edward (Mary), Catherine (Matt) Eastman and eleven grandchildren. Also, his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Mauch; sister, Carol (Dave) Sheppard; brother-in-law, Elmer Barlage (Barbara), nieces and nephews. Jim was an avid reader and a Civil War buff. He was fortunate to be able to indulge his love of travel with hiking in his beloved state of Colorado and climbing fourteeners with family members as well as the high points of each state. He also treasured the family reunion trips including Hawaii, a Caribbean cruise and a 50th wedding anniversary re-union. In his earlier years he was active in the Boy Scout organization, his community and his church. After retiring from DP&L he held several interesting jobs including with the Spieles Insurance Agency and as a sales representative with a bagel franchise that allowed Maryllis to travel with him all over the United States. An overheard conversation "I'm a better person for having known Jim", was always treasured by Maryllis. Jim was an outstanding father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. A huge "Thank You" to his terrific children and their spouses for their tremendous love and support at a most difficult time. Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 23 at the Calvary Cemetery Chapel. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 AM Tuesday at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. with a prayer service to follow at 10:30 AM. Burial, Calvary Cemetery.
