PETTRY, James Donald (“Don”) of Wilmington, Ohio, died on January 20, 2016. He was 97 years old. Don was born on October 20, 1918 in Hinton, West Virginia, the son of Rufus and Nannie Pettry. Don was a graduate of Kettering Fairmont High School. He married Virginia Horstman on January 24, 1942. Don served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943-1945 and was stationed in England during World War II. He owned and operated the Pettry Variety Store on Wyoming Street in Dayton for many years. In 1971, he and Virginia moved to Clinton County where Don farmed with his son, John. Don is survived by his wife, Virginia, his sons James (Janet) Pettry and John Pettry of Wilmington, his son, Thomas Pettry of Dayton, his granddaughters Claire Pettry and Sara (Federico) Aguilar, a special niece, Nancy (James) Gallagher, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Pettry, his brothers Fred, Sam, and Joe Pettry, his sisters Leana Osselaer, Myrtle McManus, Dilla Legg, Nina Kuhbander, Pat Lautzenheiser, and Ellen McSherry, and a special nephew, Charles “Gene” (Patricia) Kuhbander. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony Church in Dayton on Monday, January 25, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be held at the church at 9:30 A.M. prior to the Mass.
