Schiml, James Patrick, Sr., age 98, (March 17, 1920 – October 13, 2018) was the eighth of nine children born to Michael Lawrence and Edith (Helmig) Schiml. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary (Horvath, d. 12/28/1999); his parents; his four brothers (Samuel, Thomas, Michael, William), four sisters (Dorothy, Alma, Julia, Patricia) and their spouses; also by his wife’s siblings and their spouses. He is survived by his children: Cecilia (Harold) Mushenheim; James P. (Cheryl) Schiml, Jr.; Judith Schiml; and Nancy (Bobby) Terrell; also by many nieces and nephews and their offspring. A loving husband and good father, he was a kind, gentle, quiet, hard-working man, with an amiable disposition and ready sense of humor. He was a proud Navy veteran (WWII). Fond of many sports, he had a special love for baseball which he played from boyhood into adulthood, earning some local notice. He played (catcher) on Inland’s DIAA Champion teams, 1945-1948. The family extends special gratitude to his many caregivers at 10 Wilmington Place, The Sanctuary, and Vitas Hospice. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am at Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave., Dayton. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11am at St Mary's Catholic Church, 523 Xenia Ave. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
