SMITH, JERRY ALLEN age 80 passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Katherine Smith, wife, Mary Katherine Smith, daughter, Diane Louise "Annie" Smith and brothers: James Smith and Michael Smith. Jerry is survived by his children: Kathy (J.David) Ruffner, Carol Flowers, Christine (Mark) Grote and Jerry L. Smith; grandchildren: James David Ruffner, Elijah and Kathryn Flowers, Michael (Gretchen), Matthew, Anna and Mark Joseph Grote and Lexie and Brodie Smith and 2 great-grandchildren: Lucas and Violet Grote; sisters: Pat Grills and Mary Lou Von Lohr and brother, Tom Smith. After surviving the Great Depression as a child; serving in the Army in Germany for two years during the Korean War; fathering and raising five children to adulthood; caring for a disabled daughter for 51 years; providing employment for others through a small Tool and Die business for many years; remaining a loving and faithful spouse for 59 years; participating as a faithful follower of Christ his entire life; surviving prostate cancer for more than 10 years; and enduring the ravages of Alzheimer's on his cognitive and physical abilities for over five years; Jerry A. Smith is finally at rest. He was a creative, intelligent, responsible, loyal, and loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. May he rest in peace. Visitation will be Thursday, January 31st from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave, Dayton. Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 NOON, Friday, February 1st at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Dayton. Interment will follow the Mass at Forest Hills Cemetery, Piqua, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to, Hospice of Dayton.
