CHADWELL, John W. Age 84 of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009. He is preceded in death by his first wife, June in 1984, his grandson, Marcus Thibault in 2007 and sister Roberta. John's life was guided by his faith and his love of family and fun; he generously shared his spirit of volunteerism, love of gardening, stories of travel, and keen sense of humor. He was a veteran of WWII and served on the USS Wm. P. Biddle; a member of the V.F.W. post 9927; and a member of Immaculate Conception Free Spirits. He retired after working for NCR 31 years and Overnight Transportation 11 years. John will have his family and friends' undying love. He is survived by his wife, Betty J.; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Terry Phillips of Dayton; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Diane Chadwell of MA; step children, Mary Lynn Bertke of Dayton, Barbara (Rick) Duran of Toledo, Nancy (Steve) Roberts of West Carrollton, Allen (Liz) Bertke of CA, and Mark (Pam) Bertke of Kettering; grandchildren, Joey and Luke Thibault, Ricky, Martin, and Paul Duran, Michelle Baille, Sara and Nicholas Roberts; four great grandchildren; brothers, Lowell (Lynn) Chadwell of TN and Charles (Liz) Chadwell of Wilimington, OH; a brother-in-law, Ken Bloomhorst of IN; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, 10:30 am September 8 at Immaculate Conception Church, preceded by a prayer service, 10:00 am at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
