MATTHEWS Jr., John K. "Jack" died at Hospice of Dayton June 14, 2012 following several strokes and a battle with Parkinson's. Jack is preceeded in death by his parents Dorothy and John K. Matthews Sr., his wife of 45 years Jana Lowe Matthews, and his son, John David. Jack is survived by his wife Emma Voigt Matthews; daughter Minda Matthews-Smith (Barry) of Cincinnati; his cousins Dorothy Jean and Carl Young and family; step children, John Voigt (Robert Norris), Greg Voigt (Darlene), David Voigt (Laurie), and Jeanne Boozell (Christopher), and eleven grandchildren. Jack was proud to be a 3rd generation Daytonian. He was a graduate of Oakwood High School and Denison University. He had a long career in the marketing field with 25 years at E.F. MacDonald Co. before starting his own agency Matthews Advertising & Marketing. Jack was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and previously Christ Episcopal Church. He was an active member of The Dayton Country Club, the 49er's, the Rod & Reel Club, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, and JUNTO. For those life-long Daytonians, Jack was an integral part of Bogie Busters Golf Tournament. Jack also actively participated and contributed to a number of organizations in the community throughout his life - including the Downtown Dayton Association, the Kettering Foundation, Boy's Club, Carillon Park and Miami Valley Hospital. Sincere gratitude toward Home Instead, Lincoln Park Manor, and Hospice of Dayton for their care of Jack.He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. Services will be Wednesday June 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 20 Dixon Ave., a visitation will follow the service.
