Metzger, John Aloysius “Jack”, beloved husband of Madeline S. Metzger (nee Weckesser), age 82, of Centerville passed away on Monday June 21, 2021. He was one of eight children to the late Lawrence and Magdeline Metzger. “Jack” was preceded in death by his sister Betty Lemke, his brother James Metzger and grandson Luke Cecil and son-in-law, Randy Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Madeline and their three daughters; Linda Johnson, mother of grandsons Michael Johnson, and his wife Jessica, great-grandchildren Keegan and Hadley, Joshua Johnson and his wife Kelsey and great-grandchildren Balian and Lillian, and Daniel Johnson and his fiancé Terra Bussey; Lisa Cecil and her husband Michael Cecil parents of grandsons Mark Cecil and his wife Jacquline, Nicholas Cecil and Jack Cecil; and Michele Metzger of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
“Jack” is also survived by his brothers Edward Metzger (Jan), Thomas Metzger (Ronna), Robert Metzger (Patricia), Richard Metzger, and Theresa Ann Taylor (Terry); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. John served four years in the U.S. Navy where he learned to be an electrician and went on to use these skills in his career as a maintenance electrician at General Motors in Dayton, OH until his retirement in 1999.
This soft spoken, kind, and generous man loved his family, piloting his sailboat, playing cards, laughing with his grandchildren, watching movies and the Cincinnati Reds, and of course cookies. John and Madeline were active members of World Wide Marriage Encounter in the Dayton Community and Dayton Power Squadron. He was also a member of the church choir, a Eucharistic minister, and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Francis X Hoffer Council and Joseph Cardinal Bernardine Assembly.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Hospice of Dayton, Senior Helpers, the Meal Train of St. Francis of Assisi and church members as well as many dear friends and family for their prayers, support, service, friendship and love.
The family will greet friends and family Sunday, June 27th from 3 – 6 pm at Westbrock Funeral Home located at 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 28th at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi, located at 6245 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, OH 45459
A private service for Inurnment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton at a later date.
