John Joseph O’Toole, loving son, loyal friend, devoted husband, great father, and awesome grandfather passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the age 85. John was born on June 16, 1936, in the Bronx, New York City, New York, to John Joseph and Mary (McLoughlin) O’Toole Sr. He received his bachelor’s degree from Fordham University in New York City. He worked hard and smart throughout an impressive career in the airline and travel company industries, initially developing charter services for pioneer airlines such as Eastern Airways and Trans World Airlines (TWA) and then managing incentive travel programs for Top Value Enterprises/T.V. Travel, E.F. MacDonald, and Carlson Marketing Group. He volunteered for several years for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation speaking to firefighters about the importance of taking care of their own and to fellow surviving parents of fallen firefighters.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane and a son, Robert. John is survived by his wife, Ruth; two daughters and sons-in-law; Patricia (Victor) Berardi, Ruthie (William) DeVan; two sons and daughters-in-law, John (Donna) O’Toole III, Michael (Shellie) O’Toole; and seven grandchildren, Anna O’Toole, Lauren Berardi, Claire (Jordan) Clark, John G. O’Toole, Robyn Berardi, Patrick O’Toole and Molly DeVan. The family will receive friends to celebrate his life Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Rd. A mass for Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at St. Henry Church, 6696 N. Springboro Pike, Dayton. Burial will follow at Centerville Cemetery, 68 Maple Avenue, Centerville.
