Joseph Anderson

Joseph Lawrence Anderson Jr. age 81 died after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Joe was born May 27, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio to Joseph L. Anderson Sr. and Mary Louise (Niemann). He attended St. Anthony and Chaminade High School, Enlisted in the US Army, served as a medic for six years including a tour in Viet Nam. While in the Army he met his wife of nearly 59 years, Beth (Fanning) Anderson being married September 14, 1965. Joe is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Rita Anderson. He will be greatly missed by his children, Kathleen & Brad Borowy, Gregory & Krystal Anderson. Joe was "Grumpy" to his seven grandchildren Tylor (Anderson) Earl, Alexis (Glenn) Viner, Ashtyn (Tyler) Good, Madison (Wesley) McCalman, Brad Borowy Jr., Michael & Dillon Anderson; four great-grandchildren Lorelai & Samuel Viner, Liam & Callan Good. He was also an integral part of the Fanning Clan of Massachusetts.

He worked at Supermet (powered metal products) from 1969-2009 and made many friends, several of whom became part of the House "boat people". One of Joe's best traits was that he never met a stranger, the check-out clerks at Kroger's & Aldi's knew him well as did the mechanics at Bellbrook Muffler Brothers. He was an avid bowler from the time he was young. Joe & Beth hosted many pool parties at their home where he was always a gracious and friendly host. Joe was a member of St Joseph's Church in Dayton for 54 years; he was a big part of the Social Committee everyone loved his biscuits and gravy. In his later years, he enjoyed "creative" cooking, growing tomatoes in a pot on his condo patio, and his fantasy football team "Good Guys" with Greg, Michael and Dillon. But he was happiest being with his grandchildren. "Grumpy" was always ready to take them to a playground, pool, fun museum trips, vacations, playing board games, taking them to practice or picking them up, and waiting in his car for the kids to get off the school bus. He was a terrific husband and father who was always ready to participate in what Beth and the kids were up to, mostly playing Morgan Freeman by driving "Miss Daisy".

The family wants to extend our thanks to Hospice of Dayton whose support allowed us to care for him at home.
