Fletcher, Joseph Francis, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the age of 94. Born December 21, 1914, in Xenia, OH, he graduated from The University of Dayton with a civil engineering degree and a commission in the US Army in 1936. During WWII, he served in Central and South America, and extensively in the Pacific Theater of Operations designing and building roads and landing strips. Joe married Anna Mary O'Brien, of Dayton, on September 8, 1945, and they celebrated 61 anniversaries before she died in June, 2006. He worked throughout his life in a mechanical engineering capacity, becoming an expert in the design and installation of heating and air conditioning systems in hotels, offices and shopping malls throughout the state of Ohio. He was an active member of St. Anthony Parish. Joe did extensive charitable work through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Survivors include five children: Karen Doherty of St, Mary's City, MD; Kevin, of Dayton; Kathleen of Seattle, WA, and James and Patrick of Sydney, OH; a brother Robert, of Dayton, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe touched many lives, all better for his presence. Friends may call at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. from 4-7 PM Tuesday, August 18th. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony's , Wednesday at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or Hospice of Dayton.
