Age 74 of Dayton
Passed away May 7, 2018. Nick lived a life of love and service.
He attended Chaminade High School and the Kentucky Military Institute. Nick earned a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Dayton and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from University of Toledo, College of Law.
He served as the Administrative Judge for Montgomery County Juvenile Court. Judge Kuntz’s career spanned 45 years with Montgomery County. His positions included Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Referee, Legal Director and Court Administrator before being elected Judge in 1994.
Judge Kuntz served on numerous religious and criminal justice committees such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, C.A.S.A(Court Appointed Special Advocate), Family and Children First Council and the Criminal Justice Council. Judge Kuntz was a leader in Juvenile Justice reform instituting many new programs and initiatives to better the lives of youth and families in the Montgomery County community. One of his favorite and valued programs he initiated was the Start Right Educational Program which emphasized to parents the importance of education for their children and making sure they attended school. He was also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Dayton.
Nick’s devotion, love and support to his family was unparalleled. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his loved ones. He also enjoyed playing golf with close friends, attending his grandchildren’s events and spending time at the beach.
Preceded in Death by his parents, Henry Kuntz Sr. & Mary G. Kuntz; Sister, Beverly Anderson; Brothers in-law, Richard Anderson and Ronald Tateman; Nephew, Robert Bierbaum III.
Survived by his loving companion; Christine Volz Kuntz, his former wife Bonnie Kuntz, his children, Rhonda Krogh & husband Tony of Centerville, Dr. Nick Kuntz III & wife Sandra of Dayton, Kelly Koonse & husband Monty of Denver, NC; Carrie Houtz & husband Joshua of Centerville, sister Patricia Tateman of Vandalia and brother William Kuntz & wife Mitzi of Jacksonville, FL.
Grandchildren; Dane, Christian, and Peyton Kuntz, Ava and Grace Parnell, Olivia Calhoun, Navy, Maclane, & Chamberlin Houtz. Nieces and Nephews; Kim Hawley, Tammy Butler, Joy Rivera, Laurie Singer, Marcie Brooks, Barclay Bowen, Cameron Kuntz, Christine Kuntz, Richard Anderson, Ronald Tatemen Jr., Patrick Tatemen, Billy Kuntz, Michael Yates and numerous cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 17th at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road from 4-8 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Church of Incarnation on Friday, May 18th at 10:30am with Bishop Joseph Robert Binzer presiding.
In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the Judge Nick Kuntz Memorial Fund, intended for the Montgomery County Juvenile Court Foundation established by Judge Kuntz.
