VANCE, Karen, S., age 63, of Dayton, passed away on Monday November 27, 2017. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 15 years, Dennis Ray White, and parents George and Ethel (Stefanics) Vance. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Vance and Linda Vance, her brother Thomas Vance, her aunts Charlotte Stefanics, Mary Somogy and Theresa Peterson and her uncle Jesse Stefanics. She is also survived by various cousins. Karen graduated from Belmont High School and attended the School of the Dayton Art Institute until it closed, transferring to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1977. She relocated to the San Francisco area where she lived for 21 years pursuing her art career using various media including silk screening, printing and visual presentation. She met her soulmate, Dennis, during this time and they moved to northern Virginia when his job took him to Washington D.C. Karen returned to Dayton upon her husband’s retirement and she became an active member in the Magyar Club of Dayton, serving as President from 2010 – 2013 and Vice-President from 2013 – 2016. She was proud of her Hungarian heritage and worked to promote Hungarian culture in the Dayton area. Karen touched many lives and left us too soon. She will be deeply missed. Family and friends may call at Westbrock Funeral Home at 1712 Wayne Ave, Dayton, OH on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 10:00 am at Holy Angels Church at 1322 Brown St, Dayton OH followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Hospice of Dayton in Karen’s name.
