Laura J Brooks

Laura Jane (Treat) Brooks, age 101, of Dayton, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. Born in Wallingford, CT, she is preceded in death by her father, Rowland Atwater Treat, her mother, Anna Werner, step-father Dr. M.J. Werner, her sister, Sally Sawyer and brother, Charles Treat. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 62 years, Harry Thomas “Tuffy” Brooks. Laura is survived by her four daughters, Nancy Lawson of WA, Holly (John) Stiers of Vandalia, Blaire (Tom) Helldoerfer of Kettering, Tracy (Dan) Slutzker of TN; 13 grandchildren; Melanie Lawson of IN, Molly Lawson of WA, Tim (Vanessa) Lawson of WA, Brian (Brea) Lawson of WY, Jeff (Emily) Stiers of IL, Mandy (Keith) Feck of KY, Megan (Grant) Cambridge of OH, Michael (Nora) Dealoia of OH, Laura Dealoia of OH, Abigail (Ronnie) Boris of IN, Adam (Leah) Slutzker of CO, Jillian (Stephen) Rocker of TN & Matthew Slutzker of VA. 29 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; nephew, Robert (Susan) Sawyer of TN and niece, Sara Sawyer of OH and she is survived by other nieces and nephews.

A voracious reader and master of crossword puzzles and scrabble, Laura was the matriarch of a large extended family home in Dayton. Their house, nicknamed and known by most visitors by its address, “31”, was frequently filled with family, friends and lucky passers-by. Laura and Tuffy loved to host and celebrate. Laura enjoyed travel throughout her life, had quite the sweet tooth and was an avid cribbage player. She lived a great, long life and will be dearly missed. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Henry Memorial Chapel at Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:00 am at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Dayton Metro Library or Emmanuel St. Vincent de Paul Conference.
