BERTKE, Linus J., age 99 of Dayton passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018. He was born in Carthagena, Ohio on October 11, 1919 to the late, Henry and Rose (Osterfeld) Bertke. Also preceding him in death is his wife, Marie R. (nee Osterloh) Bertke; son, Charles A. Bertke; grandson, Scott M. Murphy and brothers, Walt, Rich, Bob and sister, Millie Bertke. Linus is survived by children, Linda S. (Carl) Whitener, Michael L. (Joan) Bertke, Lois J. (Jack) Requarth, Wanda L. (Mike) Murphy, Patty Isaacs; 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren (and one on the way); numerous nieces and nephews and best friend, Roy Edwards. Linus worked as a machinist with NCR. He served in the US Army as a paratrooper during WWII and was a member of the Milton Club, American Legion, Shamrock Club and the VFW. His passion was his family and friends; fishing, bowling and playing euchre. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Dayton VA for all of their compassion and care over the years. Friends and family may visit from 10-11am on Thursday, October 18 at Church of the Ascension, 2025 Woodman Dr., Kettering followed by Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 am. He will then be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Arrangements entrusted to The Westbrock Funeral Home.
