Age 79 of Kettering, Ohio, died 29 January 2016 after complications from a short illness. Louis was born on 9 May 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA. Preceded in death by his parents Speranza and Dominic Tamburino and brother John. Louis is survived by his wife Linda Sue (Quinlivan) Tamburino, daughter Linda Athena and her husband Leslie Alan Dershem, granddaughter Victoria Lynne Dershem, and by his sister Antoinette (Tamburino) Konesky, nieces Krista, Joanna, Beverly Ann and nephews Barry and Michael. Also, survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Louis graduated from Carnegie Tech (Carnegie-Mellon) University with a B.S. degree and 2nd Lt. commission and the University of Pittsburgh with a PhD in Theoretical Physics. In graduate school his research led him to become the T in Taub-NUT Space. After graduation he did his Army active duty at the Army’s Electronic Proving Ground at Ft. Huachuca, AZ followed by reserve duty. A year of Post Doctoral work at the University of Syracuse followed. Following that he was a civilian scientist with the Air Force for 39 yrs with a distinguished research career in Gravitational Field Theory and General Relativity and made contributions to the fields of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. He held two patents for Laser Cameras. In 1991 Louis was made a Wright Laboratory Fellow of the AFRL . He continued his research in the Target Recognition Branch until his retirement in 2002. He then consulted for the Air Force and with Wright State University Computer Science Department as an Adjunct Research Associate Professor. He was a member of the IEEE, Sigma Xi, Dayton Microcomputer Association, Miami Valley Consultants Network, the Inventors’ Council of Dayton, and was honored with a place on the Dayton Inventor's River Walk. He enjoyed in participating in TechFest and other STEM activities. He also held a Commercial Pilot’s license.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 5th, 2016 from 3 pm to 8 pm at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering Ohio 45440.
Private burial will occur on a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
