Madelyn "Lynne" Antoinette (Kaiser) Hemmert, age 75, of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at The Village at the Greene Nursing Home after a courageous battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. Madelyn was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 3, 1940, and grew up in the suburb of Clifton. She attended Our Lady of Angels High School and the College of Mount St. Joseph. Madelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav August Kaiser and Maria Teresa (Zimmermann) Kaiser. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Lee Hemmert; five children, Marcy (Geoff) Hughes of Lebanon, OH; Toni (Nick) Weitz of Dayton, OH; Tim (Nicole) Hemmert of Danville, CA; Julie (Sam) Weitz of Dayton, OH; and John (Kate) Hemmert of Kettering, OH; eighteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Madelyn is also survived by her brother, Bernard (Jerri) Kaiser of Cheviot, OH; sisters-in-law, Elaine (Donald) Martin of Kansas City, MO, and Diane McGinnis of Chicago, IL; and twelve nieces and nephews.
Madelyn taught third grade at St. Rose (Cincinnati) and Our Lady of Rosary (Dayton). She was also proud of her business on eBay: Lynne’s Collectibles. She was a longtime devoted member of Ascension Parish where she volunteered many hours at the church and school. But most important to her was her strong faith and her role as mother and grandmother. Lynne taught her children the power of love and tradition, the importance of loyalty and selflessness, the ability to be resilient, the determination to finish what they start, and the adventure of diving into a great novel, finishing a puzzle, planting flowers, capturing memories with photos, playing games, and cheering for the Cincinnati Reds. She made every day a holiday, and every holiday a celebration. She was also a shoulder to lean on, and the calm against any storm. Once a friend – always a friend – she was dedicated to keeping in touch with loved ones through letters and luncheons. Madelyn will always be treasured for her beautiful smile, sincere blue eyes and soft voice of reasoning.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Ascension Church, 2001 Woodman Drive, Kettering. Visitation will be held at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Avenue, Dayton, on Friday, January 22, 2016, from 4 – 8pm. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Madelyn Fund at Dynamic Senior Solutions, 3044 Dayton Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, OH 45434; (937) 429-4220.
