Maggie Zimmer, age 68, born Margaret A. Traynor in Dayton, Ohio on September 25, 1948, died January 1, 2017, after fighting a courageous battle with an aggressive breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph A. Traynor and Margaret J. Traynor. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Paul E. Zimmer and by four children and their spouses, Megan Deeley (Brian), Kathleen Kloska (Mike), P.J. Zimmer (Heidi) and Maureen Guziec (Doug) and her Angels who all know her as Mimi who are her 17 grandchildren: T.J., Jack, Ryan, Brendan and Sean Deeley; Claire, Katie, Michael, Lizzy, Joe and Paul Kloska; Madelyn, Traynor, Connor and Aiden Zimmer; and Danny and Maggie Guziec. Maggie was a loving wife who was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She kept her family close planning vacations and loved to just have a good time getting everyone together for a birthday or a Notre Dame Football game. Maggie was a graduate of the first class at Alter High School in 1966 and helped plan the 50th Reunion for that class. She attended Ursuline College in Cleveland and graduated from the University of Dayton in 1970. She was a community volunteer for years. She served on the Auxiliary Board of the Dayton Art Institute and chaired Octoberfest. She also chaired the Showhouse for the Dayton Philharmonic, chaired the Junior League’s Town Hall Speaker Series where former President Gerald Ford was a guest speaker. She was active on the Women’s Board at Children’s Medical Center and worked on many Cha-Cha fund raisers; she was on the Alter High School Booster Board, co-chaired the first Alter Spotlight Auction and was employed and then volunteered in the Alter Development Department. She volunteered with many other community organizations including Christ Child, the Little Exchange and was on the Strategic Planning Committee for St. Charles Parish. As a result of her community activity she was inducted into the Alter High School Distinguished Hall of Fame on October 19, 2002. She also coached cheerleading for each of her girls and later coached the girls reserve golf team at Alter High School. She loved playing golf with her many friends at Dayton Country Club where she was involved in the Play for Pink tournament to raise money for breast cancer research. In the winter she had fun bowling in a league with her friends. Maggie was well read, belonging to two book clubs and a stock club. She always had a bright smile, was fun to be with and could make things happen. She had a lot of good friends she cherished. Friends and family may visit from 4-8pm on Friday, January 6 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 7, also at St. Charles. Maggie will then be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would request that contributions be made to Alter High School, 940 E. David Road, Kettering, Ohio 45429 for the Maggie Zimmer Scholarship Fund.
