Marian H. Aneshansley

Marian H. Aneshansley, passed peacefully on May 22, 2014 at the age of 94. Marian was born October 7, 1919, to Dr. Nicholas E. Raterman and Henrietta (Quigley). She grew up in Fort Loramie, Ohio as an only child but with many cousins, aunts and uncles. She had fond stories of her father’s work as a veterinarian. She attended Miami University after graduating from Fort Loramie High School where she was the class salutatorian and played on the Fort Loramie woman’s basketball team.

A blind date was the start of a wonderful romance with Jim, a handsome young chemical engineer who was a recent graduate from The Ohio State University. They soon married and began their life's journey with five children Dan, Nick, Ed, Kate and Susan. The young family lived in Fort Loramie before moving and settling in Dayton where they continued to raise their family, and live for 60 years. Marian and Jim enjoyed great friends, entertaining and traveling, including the annual family vacation to Canada for fishing and many card games.

Marian was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Bridge as many of her fellow Bridge players know and have recent memories. Gardening was also an avocation and she enjoyed being a member of The Town and Country Garden Club. Volunteer work with the Red Cross and hospitals during World War II was followed by taking responsible positions associated with her children’s activities (PTA, Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts and other school activities). She was a 60 year member of Holy Angels Parish. As her nest emptied, she continued her volunteer activities as President and Treasurer of Dayton Catholic Woman’s Club, Treasurer of the Holy Angels Bridge for Charity and she volunteered at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for 20 years. She supported many causes but was particularly dedicated to PALS for Life.

She was predeceased by her devoted and very much missed husband of 60 years, Clay (Jim) Aneshansley, her parents, Dr. Nicholas E. Raterman and Henrietta (Quigley) of Fort Loramie, Ohio and her granddaughter Nichola. She leaves behind her five children, Dan Aneshansley (Jan) of Ithaca, NY, Nick Aneshansley of San Diego CA, Ed (Jocelyn) of Tucson, AZ, Kate Wright of Dayton, OH and Susan Dunlap of Norwalk, CT, sixteen grandchildren, Mary Jo Aneshansley of Chelan, WA, Ed Aneshansley of Marblehead, MA, Jennifer Aneshansley and Jimmy Aneshansley of Ithaca, NY, Pam Woods, Matt Aneshansley and Chrissy Grill of San Diego CA, Shannon Quinn, Michael Hall and Shaun Aneshansley of Tucson, AZ, Jamie Mickkelson of Southington, CT, Kevin Aneshansley of Colorado Springs, CO, Don Reynolds, John Reynolds and Nathan Wright of Dayton, Ohio and Andrew Dunlap of Norwalk, CT, along with twenty-three great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
