OVERWEIN, Martha (Bucher) was one of 8 children of Clement and Agnes Cull Bucher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Overwein, mother and father, and brothers Francis X. Bucher, Thomas A. Bucher, John Clement Bucher, Charles W. Bucher and James I. Bucher; 2 sisters, Susan Therese Pfeiffer, Mary Agnes “Molly” Granato. She is survived by her brother, Charles W. Bucher and many nieces, nephews, and great and grand nieces and nephews.
Besides her family, she leaves a wide wealth of friends and associates.
Martha graduated from Julienne High School and the University of Dayton. She took a Masters in Library Science from Columbia University in New York. She worked for many years as a librarian in Dayton, Ohio, including positions at the Dayton Engineers Club and the Dayton Public Library, where she was the director of the science and industry section.
Martha loved to travel and spent several extended periods in France and other places in Europe. She was a life-long learner. In her retirement, she enthusiastically enjoyed the opportunity to audit courses at UD in the fields of history, literature, politics and music.
Martha was a smart, delightful, cheery, and upbeat woman. She knew of her importance in the world as well as the breadth of what she had yet to learn.
Friends and family may visit from 4pm-7pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. Dayton. On Thursday, February 9 there will be a prayer service at 9:45 am, also at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will then follow at 10:30 am at St. Rita Catholic Church. Calvary Cemetery will serve as Marty’s final resting place.
